La Fleche Zoo – 50 Things to do on a Gites in France Holiday
You’ve rented a gite in France – what do you want to do? Loire Life presents 50 things to see in the Loire Valley, Vendee & Brittany regions of France.
La Fleche Zoo, Sarthe, Loire Valley, France
If you go down to the woods today….it may only be February, but we braved the cold and headed to La Fleche Zoo with our daughter. Something to do during the school holidays – and it was brilliant.
Not cheap however, but by the end of the day worth every penny of the €59 entrance fee.
Given the weather, some of the animals were confined to their sheds (notably the giraffes), but because of the weather, we were treated to a fantastic spectacle – the polar bear having a great time swimming in its large lake. With the clear glass screen and no crowds we were able to be nose to nose with the bear – apart from the glass! We’ve often heard summer guests saying how uncomfortable the polar bear looked in its pen – I can only put that down to July and August temperatures not being comfortable for the animal. February and he looked as happy as Larry.
Same for the sea lions, penguins, artic foxes and oddly the Kangaroos – who didn’t seem to mind 5c.
We took lunch in the main restaurant – and in mid Feb the queue went down pretty quickly – I’d advise a packed lunch in July and August however, or you could be all day….
February half term is probably not when you’d think to holiday in a gite in France – but find one with central heating or a nice wood burner and it makes for a diverting week.
Travel to your Gite in France
Easiest to nip across in the car, so take the boat from either Plymouth, Poole or Portsmouth with Brittany Ferries !
