Puy du Fou, Vendee, France – 50 Things to see on a Loire Valley Gites Holiday
You’ve rented a Loire Valley gite – what do you want to do? Loire Life presents 50 things to see in the Loire Valley & Vendee regions of France.
Puy du Fou Vendee, Pays de la Loire, France (No 2)
Rent a gite in the south western end of the Loire Valley and you’ll find yourself in the beautiful Vendee and within easy striking distance of one of the best theme parks in the entire world – and you may never have heard of it!
I always have trouble explaining to our Loire Valley guests just how good Puy du Fou is. It’s not a theme park for thrilling rides and roller coasters, but comparing it to Euro Disney or Universal Studios doesn’t do it justice either.
You spend your day (or days, as there is so much to see) being entertained by an ever growing number of theatrical outdoor shows. Huge in their scale and awesome in their delivery there is something for everyone. Children from the age of five upwards to grandparents will have a day to remember for a long, long time. In between the shows there are full scale themed villages to wander around – from a medieval village to a 19th century town centre.
Planning which shows you do in which order is fun! Be entertained at the Roman coliseum, watch the Viking longboats attacking the coast, the knights as they lay siege to the castle or the birds of prey drawing gasps from the crowd as they dance to music.
There are now on-site hotels that enable you to stay the night and take in the amazing light show that takes place in the evening, an event with thousands of participants that is unforgettable.
Even if your gite is not in the Vendee, it’s worth making a longer journey to see Puy du Fou – your children will thank you for the rest of the summer!
